Tropical Papaya Inspired Editorial on the Gloomy Oregon Coast

My goal with this shoot was to capture an up-and-coming destination wedding venue in Oregon with a unique tropical twist (Hoping to be open in 2021). Anyone who knows Oregon knows that we are not a tropical state. Every now and again I’ll see some palm trees growing that have been planted young and acclimated into the land and climate, but we are right in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Northwest and definitely known for our pines over palms. I wanted to showcase that tropical touches can still be added to an Oregon Coast elopement and be done in a tasteful way.

For the tablescape elements, I combined fresh fruits, which is a surprisingly budget friendly piece of decor, with bud vases and a main floral centerpiece. Soft pink taper candles in natural wood holders tied in that coastal driftwood look, while the fruit and bright pops of color in the florals added the subtle tropical look I was going for. Motif Event Rentals contributed beautiful bistro chairs and gold silverware for our tablescape as well as two butterfly ratan chairs which work well for a sweetheart table or to dress up a lounge area. In our case we used it as sort of a desert lounge with DIY fresh fruit and juice popsicles. One of my favorite tablescape elements were the gorgeous handmade pottery pieces from Alex Apland. The plates were hand formed as opposed to wheel thrown making them organic, while the cups were wheel thrown, yet have subtle differences that make each one a piece of art.

I was absolutely blown away by the arch pieces that our florist Megan from Freckled Fleurs made. They were the perfect mix of modern, tropical, and local, incorporating blooms that were local to Oregon alongside the far away beauties.

Elisa from Oak and Brush made a wonderful invitation suite for us. I’m always a huge fan of the look of hand torn cotton paper, and I think it really added the perfect touch to this suite. What’s great about this suite is that it’s actually printed and not hand lettered, but something thoughtfully crafted like this is still going to absolutely wow your guests while potentially being slightly more budget friendly. The “Treat Yo Self” sign on the contrary, was hand lettered and beautifully so, as well as the rock “name cards” which were put together using local rocks straight from Oregon’s soil.

The couple who modeled for us were actually newlyweds and had been married just 4 months. Lauren was happy to get her wedding gown back on and have some fun on the coast. Her stunning gown was custom made by Lace Marry.
