Hailey & Cody's Rainy Day Engagement Session In Studio and Around Grants Pass
Hailey reached out to me and I was immediately super excited because we knew each other in High School! Take me back right? (Just kidding, but I do miss playing basketball) She just got engaged to Cody over the Holidays and he was about to leave to head back to Montana! We were able to fit in a super last minute session, and of course the one day that worked out it rains, but it’s all about learning to dance in the rain with your love until you’re 82 and wrinkly, right?
We started out with some studio portraits which are always fun:
At this point we transitioned out into the City and our first stop was the Water Plant. You might think “Ew Water Filtration Plant? That smells bad and is a weird location.” but it’s actually a really neat historical building, you’ll see what I mean!
At this point in the session after taking some thought out double exposures, we drove down the road to location number three, a little grove of ever greens at a local park. Hailey and Cody love being in nature and spending time together outdoors so we definitely needed to take some photos out in “the woods”. Cody actually proposed while they were getting their first Christmas tree together and totally took Hailey by surprise!
I just want to end by talking about mood and color briefly. This was a dark forested location and by nature is considered a “moody” location. As a hybrid film photographer, I am all about breaking the “light and airy” mold when necessary, and am not as much concerned with images looking light, but with images looking true to the color and mood of the situation that we were in. I want my images to be full of truth and accurately record all weddings and portraits in the way that they actually occurred.
